Farrah Mechaels debut EP “Farrah Please” lands her spot on Digi Tour

Farrah Mechael’s journey is a magical one. Rising out of Detroit, at a young age she was captivated by the fantasy and whimsy of music.

While most aspiring singers have a notable contemporary artist they looked to for inspiration, Farrah looked to a song from the 1959 animated feature film Sleeping Beauty called “Once Upon a Dream,” an operatic display of Disney enchantment. This lead to her singing jazz and opera in her teen years, ultimately Farrah found her voice in pop music, combining the melodic romance of her fairy-tale days with an edgy emo backing track.

Farrah’s debut EP entitled “Farrah Please”, is a perfect mix of both uptempo Pop rhythms, downtempo emo vibes, with a dash of of tropical and EDM tones. Flying from her lips and crashing into your eardrums, “Farrah Please” was released to all streaming platforms December 21st 2017.

Underneath the layers, Farrah hopes to inspire everyone who hears her album, to feel as deeply and love as strongly and passionately as she does. Follow Farrah Mechael as she joins the Digi Tour Spring 2018 on 16 dates in a city near you.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide
to become an artist?

I grew up in the suburbs of like Detroit. So I always knew I was gonna be an
artist, like singing is my true passion, I literally sang before I could speak when I was a
baby. I grew up and I was classically trained singing at the Detroit opera house and I
was in a couple operas there. And singing in churches, like singing opera in churches
like growing up. Then I started to sing a whole bunch of gospel and that’s how I really
trained my voice. And then I did a whole bunch of jazz and I actually sang at Obama’s
inauguration ceremony in Detroit and I sang “At Last” and that was a really cool
experience for me and I got a standing ovation so that was like, it was just like a cool
night for me. So yeah, you know that song “At Last” by Etta James, jazz, so yeah I grew
up singing a whole bunch of gospel, jazz, opera, and I got to really train my voice you
know? And now I use elements from all those different genres in my music and that’s
why I think my music kinda has like a unique blend of a whole bunch of sounds that’s
like really unique nowadays. So yeah I just love music, I love singing, I always knew I
wanted to be an artist.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local
bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Yeah I think confidence is key for sure. Especially when you’re going on stage in
a place you may not be familiar with. I think just having that presence of knowing what
you’re doing and why you’re there and I think being really personable with fans is like
the most important thing. You can’t be stuck up like a stuck up artist and have people
think you’re like sitting on this pedestal, you’re above them, like that’s not cool, like
that’s not even true, we’re all equal. I think that without them you wouldn’t be there, you
have to step back for a sec, you have to thank them. Like for me that’s so important, like
I love my fans, to death, like I love them. Because ike without them you wouldn’t be
where you are, it’s so important you know.

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle
that?

If you make a mistake, we’re all human, it’s alright, everyone makes mistakes, no
one’s perfect, you just gotta keep going. Like everyone’s there for the show, like if you
made a little mistake, it’s alright just keep going, don’t think about it, it didn’t happen.

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our
readers would enjoy hearing about?

Well I’m actually about to go on my first tour so I’m like so excited for it. So I don’t
have any previous stories but yeah about to go on my first one.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

So I work at a whole bunch of different studios depending on what producer I’m
working with for what song. But the studio I work at now is really nice, I have a really
nice board, they actually just got a new one, and my mom and I were involved in
choosing it and all that. And I just got, my sister and I for Christmas our own personal
home recording kit so we’re getting more familiar with being able to record on our own.

So when we come up with cool stuff then we’ll go to the studios we actually record at
and we get like a good copy.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for
you?

I think the best way to promote your music is just posting it online and having
your friends post it and word of mouth does better than you think. And getting everyone
you know to spread the word and post on their pages and share and like. And posting
like a little video on YouTube. And snap stories, like getting people to follow along in
your daily life, you know, like intriguing them and making them wanna see more and
sharing your story and hearing their story like it’s really dope.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive)
where and who would it be with? Why?

I probably would wanna perform at the Sydney Opera House. Let’s say I did like
an opera set to begin and I transitioned, I think performing like, I would love to perform
with Michael Jackson. He is an artist that inspired me so much and I just always have
felt like a weird connection with him and his music and I don’t know I love him, I’ve
always loved him, I look up to him. Like especially his “This Is It” album, I fell in love.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk
about?

So right now like I said I’m about to go on my first tour which I’m so pumped for.

But at the same time I’m making a whole bunch of new music with a completely new
sound and I’m so excited to get it out there and I think it’s so crazy and the world is
gonna absolutely love it. Like it’s just gonna start something crazy worldwide I think.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

I think I’d be making music. I think if I weren’t an artist, I’d still be an artist. I’d still
be songwriter, I’d be involved in music, period.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?

My new music and the tour, everyone come out to Digitour. And no, my new
music is something that’s so insane, like when I tell you it’s a new sound that’s never
been done before, it’s crazy. And then when I go on tour for that, it’s just gonna be
crazy. I think there’s a lot coming in store for this year.

Yeah, shout-out to my sister for being the best songwriter ever. Shout-out to my
mom for making this all possible, and believing in me no matter what. Shout-out to Ty
for believing in me and doing so much. And shout-out to my dad because I love him,
yeah thanks, just like giving this all a chance.
