Found in the Inbox: VRSATYL Reps “Boston Pride”

Vee “VRSATYL” Meadows first took the spotlight at high school step shows in Jackson, Tennessee, as a step coordinator with the Beta Phi Sigma fraternity, the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Boston Pride” says. Those shows launched a rap career built on what the campaign calls “ground breaking, inspiring and undeniable lyrics.”

Clean lyrics, long road

VRSATYL moved to San Diego in 1986 and kept a clean rap style that avoids harsh lyrics, even when producers were not interested. The debut album V came in 2003, and a 2004 song landed in the ESPN video game NBA 2K5. In 2005 VRSATYL stepped away to raise a family, later working as a bus operator for MTS.

Back through a radio contest

A friend suggested entering old songs in a Z90 radio contest in July 2015, and a second-place finish proved there was life left in the music. The San Diego sports anthem “Daygo Pride,” produced by Roadeezy, followed, with a video featuring Chargers icon Boltman; it won Judges Pick in two challenges on indi.com and a performance for more than 3,000 people at the Chargers Blood Drive. “Boston Pride” takes the idea to another city.
