Found in the Inbox: Astronauts of Antiquity Search for “Paradise

Luminous electronic soundscapes, dance rhythms, pop melodies and provocative lyrics: that is how the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Paradise” introduces Astronauts of Antiquity. The trio is fronted by vocalist and co-founder India, with guitarist B. Rhyan and programmer Ivica, whom the campaign calls the band’s “resident sonic wizard.”

Designed to take a second listen

“We’ve designed it so you might not get it right away,” B. Rhyan explains. “We want the sound to be multi-dimensional, inviting the listener to look a little deeper, to expand on the ‘mysteries of life’ aspects.” The band also invited rapper Deploi, from the West Coast collective House of Vibe, onto its songs. B. Rhyan sums up the approach as “forward thinking rooted in the wisdom of the past.”

A song with a cause

The campaign tied the release of “Paradise” to the March Against Monsanto and its opposition to genetically modified food. The full-length album Beyond the Maze was recorded at Ivica’s Venice Beach studio and also includes “Love Child,” based on a true story a friend told India. “Everything about it is true,” India says.

Why it was in the inbox

“The present is what is most important,” India says, and “Paradise” is a dance-pop song that wants listeners to think about it.
