Green eyes has a brilliant backing track, the two pianos sound sublime and uplifting alongside the heavy yet mellow beat – it’s a really impressive, unexpected and creative fusion of styles. The melody of the track is hugely memorable, but for the most part it’s the leading instrument that rides alongside with the male vocal that delivers the melody the most effectively. The artist’s leading voice during the mellow rap verses, the almost spoken word segments, works much more positively than the sung section. The rap style performance shows off the calming tone of the artist’s voice, and this works really well in unison with the positive and mellow energy of the music.

As the female artist’s voice comes into play, it provides a really unusual structural change. The vocal appears quite late on in the track, which isn’t often the case, and so creatively the approach is unique and is likely to grab an audiences attention. The artist’s voice also has a gentle and easy to listen to presentation to it, so this too mixes well within the piece. As mentioned, the music is brilliant, a really impressive and enjoyable bit of composition and production, and the mellow rap vocal is a good sound to have alongside this.

The melody of the track would perhaps be more effective if just presented instrumentally, or possibly if Meg Godd were to add her vocal tones – thus mixing up and potentially enhancing the hook sections throughout the track. Although, as stated, it’s refreshing that the collaboration has taken place in such an unusual manner, structurally speaking. It’s great to hold on to that original element. The melody itself, or riff, as it were, is a fairly striking and memorable one. All in all the music has been really well done.
