Found in the Inbox: Bonnie Anderson Holds On to “The Ones I Love”

Bonnie Anderson won Australia’s Got Talent in 2007 at the age of 12. The Rive Video Promotion campaign for “The Ones I Love” follows what came next: platinum-selling success in Australia, a Top 10 on the ARIA chart with “Blackout” and a role as a face of Maybelline. “The Ones I Love,” on Radikal Records, was the singer’s North American debut.

Backed by the DJs

The single drew support from Tiësto, Gregor Salto, Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery, which the campaign says helped push it to No. 2 on UK Music Week’s Club Chart and No. 1 Breakout on Billboard’s Club Songs chart. Remixes from Diamm, DASCO, Alinari and Soulshaker followed.

A song from a dream

Bonnie Anderson co-wrote the upbeat track with Michael Paynter and Michael Delorenzis, and the idea arrived in a dream. “I dreamt my dad had passed away and it really freaked me out,” Bonnie says. “It just really reminded me that life doesn’t go on forever. We’ve got to make the most of what we’ve got and spend time with the people we love.”

Why it was in the inbox

An irresistibly upbeat melody carrying a heavy thought: “The Ones I Love” is a dance record with a reason to call home.
