Found in the Inbox: Devi Counts Every Day on “One More Day”

“Each day is a wonder,” Devi sings on “One More Day,” and the Rive Video Promotion campaign for the song argues that the line was earned. The singer-songwriter came to making music late, after years of filing away, as the release puts it, every pain and pleasure along the way.

The Heart Stone EP

Produced by Devi and Ali Theodore, Heart Stone has five candid songs. The title track is about deciding to “keep the faith and turn to another page,” “It’s Your Life” about taking the reins and “Promises” about honesty: “Honesty is a must if we’re gonna make it work.” The name has a literal origin. “I collect heart stones,” Devi says. “One day I found a broken heart stone, which inspired me to write the song.”

Pink Floyd and mariachi

The campaign describes two early passions that are hard to hear on the EP. The first was rock: growing up in Philadelphia, Devi treated Todd Rundgren, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Disturbed as lifelines. “Dark Side of the Moon was my drug,” Devi says. The second came from time in Mexico, where Devi learned Spanish through song, sang mariachi and recorded a first album, Devi, in Spanish, before the EPs Take Me Away and Believe.

Why it was in the inbox

“This music resonates from my life,” Devi explains, describing a platform “for women who have gone through so much and have decided to take control of their lives.” “One More Day” is that idea in its simplest form.
