Found in the Inbox: Salt Ashes Fights for Love on “Save It”

In this story

UK electronic singer-songwriter Salt Ashes closed 2016 with a self-titled debut album, and the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Save It” says the record confirmed an artist to watch. It stays true to the dark pop songs and zeitgeist club sound Salt Ashes became known for.

The club charts agree

The lead single reached No. 22 on Billboard’s Dance Club chart and charted on Music Week’s Upfront Club Top 40 and Commercial Pop Top 30, as well as the Kings of Spins Top 20. Record of the Day called it “this brilliant on-trend banger with one hell of a chorus,” adding that “Calvin Harris would probably kill for this tune,” and Idolator said Salt Ashes “has whipped up a firecracker.” Remixes came from Grammy winner Dave Audé, Manuel Riva, Jerome Price and Cruelty, with support from BBC Radio 1Xtra, KISS FM UK, Napster and Gaydio.

A love others do not approve of

The video debuted on Billboard in January 2017. Directed by Salt Ashes and Ian Coulson, it is an abstract piece that captures the darkness and beauty of fighting for a love others do not approve of, with the passion, tension and defiance the song was written to evoke.

Why it was in the inbox

“Save It” has a 90s club vibe and a modern edge, a breath of fresh air, as the campaign put it, for electronic pop.
