Richard Alexander goes for a sultry, tender ballad on the soothing “Be For You”. Vocals have a smooth luxurious quality to them. Fully embracing a chamber R&B style, the piece unfurls with a majestic grace. His lyrics further add to this poetry for every verse is picked with the utmost of care. Exploration of relationships, their ebb and flow, take up the very core of the message, for they have a universality to them. The vulnerability with which he sings has a beauty to it, almost of a confessional nature that can take a while to fully realize.

Overhearing a conversation adds to the sense of intimacy that the track magnifies with such care. Melodies seem to waft as if suspended in space. Rhythm has a low-key element to it. Bass anchors it, oscillating in a calm steady way, serving as a wave allowing everything else to flow off of it. Percussion features a tactile presence behind it, for it has a delicate touch. Nothing here ever feels too much, rather the beguiling nature of the tempo further draws one into the narrative. With thoughts about relationships, about how hard it can be to fully express oneself, there is a kindness there that feels lovely to behold. Done with such delight the rest of the piece gradually builds up into careful bloom.
“Be For You” is a joy of a track, proving Richard Alexander to be the creator of a true instant classic.
