Found in the Inbox: Kristina Cottone Strums a “Ukulele Love Song”
In this story
Kristina Cottone is an indie-soul artist based in Chicago, best known as front woman and founding member of the soul and rock band Honey & the 45s. The Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Ukulele Love Song” introduced the solo project, Kristina Cottone Music, which runs alongside the band.
A family of performers
The arts run in the family: a grandfather who sang jazz and an aunt who acted. Kristina holds a BFA in acting and spent five years in the company of Chicago’s Organic Theater Company before turning to music full time.
Honey & the 45s
The band won Best Blues/Jazz Band at the 2014 Chicago Independent Music Awards and has opened for Cold War Kids, Big Data, Smash Mouth, Andy Grammer, The Original Wailers and Eric Hutchinson. New City Music’s Robert Rodi praised a voice that “rides all the varied rhythms with confidence, sass and just the right touch of ironic sexiness,” adding: “Smart girls, it’s clear, just plain do it better.”
Why it was in the inbox
A ukulele is a brave choice for a soul singer. “Ukulele Love Song” makes it sound obvious.
