Found in the Inbox: Kick the Robot Go “Supermassive Automatic”

Kick the Robot play what they call “arena garage rock”: hook-heavy alt-rock with bright harmonies, blistering riffs and a bold sensibility, as the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Supermassive Automatic” puts it. The Lawrenceville, Georgia trio uses three vocalists, and the stomping lead single shows the power of that triple attack.

Black Magic Radio Static

The sophomore album follows the 2013 debut Music to Fight the Future, which Backstage Beat praised for “a fine, organic sound that harkens back to the genre’s bright days in the ’90s.” Produced by Gerry Hansen, whose credits include Chuck Leavell, Shawn Mullins and Michelle Malone, it adds emotional intensity on tracks like the brutally honest “Foxtrot Uniform” and captures the live energy the band showed on a national tour with Collective Soul.

Friends since sixth grade

Drummer Dylan Hansen, bassist Dan Remel and guitarist Jesse Scarpone formed the band in their early teens. “We all grew up listening to music from the late-’60s and the ’70s, and there’s a rebellious spirit to that era that really appeals to us,” Hansen explains.

Why it was in the inbox

Three voices, one riff and no apologies. “Supermassive Automatic” is exactly as big as it sounds.
