Netanya – Cloud 9
In this story
Netanya’s “Cloud 9” works as poppy blissful ambience. Production here features a stunning polish to it. The treatment of the vocals helps to give it an otherworldly, carefree attitude about it. With nods to Daft Punk’s dreamy-eyed output, the whole of the piece wraps itself around the listener. A serenity of sorts emerges from the hypnotic looping that further explores every single facet of the very sound. Easy to get lost in, Netanya creates their own distinct ecosystem where the electronic flourishes reverberate within a vast space.
From the very beginning the mood is set just right. The usage of the glitch effect adds to the playful quality of the piece. Various sounds seem to speak to each other before even the vocals enter into the fray. Beats are brought in gradually yet they possess such power. Underneath all of this is a sweeping, majestic bassline that is quite beautiful. Evolution of the groove helps to give the song a physicality, for it expands out into the infinite. While listening to this, there is a sense of community that the song radiates. Lyrics have a thoughtfulness to them and the delivery touches upon a little bit of Ladytron’s epic electro pop giddiness. By the time the song comes to the finale the rush of aural elements gives it a delirious joy.
“Cloud 9” shows off Netanya’s uncanny ability to sculpt an entire universe of sounds, textures, and melodies that effortlessly combine to create a virtual sonic stream of consciousness.
