Found in the Inbox: Inas X and PnB Rock Admit to Being “Stupid”
In this story
“With so much going on in the world, I just want to make people feel good. Even if it’s just one person, I’m happy,” Inas X says in the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Stupid,” featuring PnB Rock. The stage name, the campaign explains, is a mark of independence: undefined and empowered, without labels or limits.
Brooklyn roots, Palestinian heritage
Raised in Brooklyn by Palestinian parents, Inas X often weaves Middle Eastern sounds into the music, alongside pop, hip-hop and reggae and the influence of Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Billie Holiday, Aaliyah, Amy Winehouse and, above all, Michael Jackson. After high school in small-town Connecticut, the career brought Inas back to New York. “Love Is,” written after the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling, reached the Billboard dance chart; Inas calls it a true identity song.
Unstoppable
The campaign shares that Inas was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis that year, and that the experience sharpened the message. “We are limitless and unstoppable entities,” Inas says. “I want to give people hope.” “Stupid” is about a toxic relationship that was hard to walk away from. “You can be the smartest person, but be so stupid for just one person and that’s ok.”
Why it was in the inbox
A breakup song from someone who refuses to be defined by anything. “Stupid” is honest about the mistakes and generous about them.
