Found in the Inbox: True Widow Slow Everything Down on “F.W.T.S: L.T.M”
In this story
True Widow makes music that the Rive Video Promotion campaign describes as calling to mind “foggy dawns and parched fields.” The Dallas trio formed in November 2007, released a self-titled debut a year later and caught the ears of the underground immediately.
Heavy, patient, rounded
At its core, the campaign says, True Widow’s music is built on the driving, guitar-dense side of shoegaze and stoner rock and the heavy, low-moving pull of ambient music. The band’s alternating male and female vocals blur the line further between stoner rock’s heft, shoegaze’s drone and the twang of blues and indie rock.
From Circumambulation to Avvolgere
The 2011 album As High As the Highest Heavens and From the Center to the Circumference of the Earth solidified the band’s direction. 2013’s Circumambulation, the trio’s first release on Relapse Records, drew praise from Pitchfork, NPR, Decibel and Metal Injection and led to tours across the US, Russia and Europe, including Roadburn, Fun Fun Fun Fest and Psycho California. “F.W.T.S: L.T.M” comes from the follow-up, Avvolgere, which the campaign calls the band “sounding more infectious and consummate than ever before.”
Why it was in the inbox
Few heavy bands are this comfortable leaving space. “F.W.T.S: L.T.M” lets the distortion and the melody take their time.
