Exposed Vocals New Music
Samuel Virgo continues the rollout of his forthcoming EP with “Slip Away,” a melancholic alternative love song built around the feeling of losing yourself as you move in and out of love.
The Sheffield-born, London-based artist wrote, produced and engineered the track himself, keeping the arrangement deliberately intimate. Guitars, close vocals and understated production carry one of the project’s most vulnerable moments, extending the more self-directed chapter Virgo introduced with “ICU.”
Virgo has described this new body of work as a reset under his own name after years of releasing as Svirgo19. “Slip Away” shows a softer side of that transition, shifting the focus from the distorted narratives explored on “ICU” toward relationships, identity and emotional erosion.
His broader sound draws from indie, alternative, hip-hop and post-punk, with influences ranging from Fontaines D.C. and The 1975 to Tyler, The Creator, Blood Orange and Dean Blunt. That blend is less about genre-hopping than maintaining enough space for each song to find its own emotional shape.
Virgo has also built his reputation live, with appearances at The Finsbury, Colours Hoxton, Camden Assembly, The Alternative Escape Festival and BARE in Norway, while his music has received support from BBC Introducing Sheffield, COLORSxSTUDIO, Glide Magazine, DMY and Ones To Watch.
