Want your followers to become real fans? Then stop relying on social media alone and start moving people onto your own platform—whether that’s your website, an email list, Patreon, or anywhere you actually control your audience.
Here’s the problem: most artists think they can just drop a link and expect people to follow. That’s not how it works. Nobody is leaving Instagram or TikTok just because you told them to. You have to give them a real reason to make the jump.
Start by making it worth their time. If all your content is already on social media, why would anyone leave? Offer something exclusive—unreleased tracks, behind-the-scenes content, early access to new music, discounts on merch. Make sure they know they’re getting something special that isn’t available anywhere else.
Then, keep it simple. Too many artists clutter their bios and captions with five different links, expecting people to figure it out. They won’t. If you want them on your Patreon, focus on that. And if you really want them to move, make it personal. Fans follow artists who make them feel connected. Engage with them. Respond to comments. Shout them out when they subscribe or sign up. Make it clear that supporting you on your own platform means being part of something bigger.
Finally, use some urgency. Nobody cares about a generic “sign up for my newsletter.” But if you tell them they’ll get an unreleased track today only, or that your Patreon subscribers get first access to new music before it drops everywhere else, that’s a reason to move right now.
