The Mad Butcher was/is a grocery store chain that began life as Nugent's Grocery in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Allan H. Bellamy Jr. and his mother opened Nugent's in the 1950s. The grocery later became known as the Mad Butcher and by the 1970s, there were 28 stores that employed more than 650 people all over southern Arkansas.
