Spotlight Feature: Phantogram Unveils Memory Of A Day (Deluxe) Featuring Big Boi and Whethan
Genre-defying duo Phantogram returns with the deluxe edition of their acclaimed album Memory Of A Day, released via Neon Gold / FUTURES. The expanded project delivers new layers to the band’s signature sound, blending dark psychedelia, alt-pop, and electronic tension with three standout additions—including a high-profile collaboration with legendary OutKast rapper Big Boi.
The reimagined track “Move In Silence” now includes a powerful feature from Big Boi, marking the latest creative reunion between the artists. Longtime fans will recognize the chemistry, tracing back to their collaborative Big Grams project. Speaking on the track’s origins, Phantogram recalls:
“‘Move in Silence’ started as a beat Josh made before we began working on Memory of a Day. One night, Big Boi invited us over while he was in LA. Josh played him some ideas, and we ended up jamming to ‘Move in Silence’ over and over—it just had that energy. Big Boi said, ‘Yo, this needs to be a Big Grams song.’ We told him it was probably going to be a Phantogram track, but when we were putting together the deluxe version, we knew it was the right time for him to jump on.”
The deluxe edition also features two additional new songs: “Earthshaker” and “In My Head” featuring Whethan, the forward-thinking producer known for his work with Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, and more. Together, the expanded tracklist reaffirms Phantogram’s position as one of alternative music’s most adaptive and boundary-pushing acts.
Since their debut Eyelid Movies in 2010, Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel have built a sonic identity rooted in the unexpected—melding dream-pop, trip-hop, electronic textures, and searing emotional undercurrents. Their sound is unmistakable: hard-hitting beats, textured layers of synth and guitar, and Barthel’s haunting vocals that cut with both sweetness and grit.
Memory Of A Day (Deluxe) arrives on the heels of a heavy touring schedule that included a full run with Deftones, headline shows across North America, and appearances at major festivals including Austin City Limits and III Points Festival. Fans were treated to rare collaborative moments like Phantogram joining Deftones on stage for a performance of “Cherry Waves.”
The album’s release also marks a new chapter in the duo’s career as part of Neon Gold Records, the influential indie label behind artists like HAIM, Tove Lo, MARINA, and Christine and the Queens. It’s a natural fit for a band that has always pushed alt-pop’s edges.
