Exposed Vocals: Silva Lining Band brings together multiple generations and musical influences. How did the band come together, and what does your family dynamic bring to your music?
Silva Lining Band: Silva Lining Band was born out of a deep love for storytelling through music. With members spanning different generations, we naturally bring a wide range of influences to our sound. Our family dynamic creates a unique creative synergy—there’s an unspoken understanding that allows us to push each other artistically while staying true to our roots. Music has always been a shared language for us, and that connection translates into the energy and emotion in our songs.
Exposed Vocals: That Night carries a deep sense of nostalgia and reflection. Can you talk about the inspiration behind the song?
Silva Lining Band: That Night is a song about fleeting moments that leave a lasting impact. It captures that bittersweet feeling of looking back at a night that changed everything—whether it’s love, loss, or a realization that shifts your world. The song was inspired by personal experiences and stories we’ve heard over the years, and we wanted to channel that universal sense of longing and reminiscence.
Exposed Vocals: Your music blends rock, jazz, and other genres seamlessly. How do you approach genre fusion in your songwriting?
Silva Lining Band: We don’t set out to blend genres intentionally—it happens organically. Each member of the band brings their own musical background, whether it’s jazz improvisation, blues guitar licks, or rock-driven energy. We let the song dictate where it wants to go rather than forcing it into a specific genre. The result is a natural fusion that reflects our diverse musical influences while still maintaining a cohesive sound.
Exposed Vocals: The track has a cinematic and atmospheric quality. What was the recording process like, and how did you achieve this sound?
Silva Lining Band: We wanted That Night to feel immersive, like a scene from a movie that stays with you. We used a combination of analog and digital techniques to create depth—layering ethereal reverb, subtle orchestration, and dynamic shifts. The recording process was very deliberate; we wanted to give the song an almost dreamlike quality. The goal was to make listeners feel like they were stepping into the memory of that night themselves.
Exposed Vocals: Your debut album Lisboa features over 12 musicians. How does collaboration play a role in shaping your sound?
Silva Lining Band: Collaboration is at the heart of our music. Having so many musicians involved in Lisboa allowed us to explore a richer sonic palette, from brass sections to layered harmonies. We love bringing in different musicians who can add their own flavor while still fitting within the larger vision of the song. It’s an ever-evolving creative process, and that openness to collaboration is what gives our sound its depth and variety.
Exposed Vocals: Lisbon and London both influence your music. How do these two cities shape your sound and lyrical themes?
Silva Lining Band: Lisbon and London are like two sides of the same coin for us, and both cities are deeply woven into our music because they’re a part of who we are. With part of our family growing up in Lisbon and part in London, we naturally carry influences from both cities. Lisbon brings warmth, nostalgia, "saudade" even, while London adds grit, urgency, and the pulse of a constantly moving city. The contrast between the two environments influences our storytelling.
Exposed Vocals: With That Night releasing soon, what do you hope listeners take away from this song?
Silva Lining Band: We hope That Night resonates with listeners on a personal level. Everyone has that one night they can’t forget—the one that lingers in their mind, for better or worse. Whether it sparks nostalgia, reflection, or a sense of closure, we want listeners to connect with the song in their own way and make it part of their own story.
Exposed Vocals: The indie music scene is constantly evolving. What has been your biggest challenge and most rewarding moment so far?
Silva Lining Band: One of the biggest challenges is cutting through the noise—there’s so much incredible music out there, and getting heard requires constant effort. But the most rewarding moments come when people reach out to tell us how our music has impacted them. Seeing a song that started as a personal expression become meaningful to someone else is the best feeling in the world. Additionally, we were recently nominated for Best Rock Song at the International Portuguese Music Awards. While awards may be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, it's still great to see our fully independent venture recognized
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform That Night anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Silva Lining Band: We’d love to perform That Night in an intimate, atmospheric venue—maybe somewhere like the Palácio da Pena in Sintra, Portugal, or the Union Chapel in London. The song thrives in spaces that have a sense of history and mystery, where the audience can truly sink into the mood of the music. That said, we wouldn’t say no to the O2 Arena in London or Meo Arena in Lisbon… you know, if they insist!
Exposed Vocals: What’s next for Silva Lining Band in 2024 and beyond? Any new projects, live performances, or surprises in the works?
Silva Lining Band: 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for us! We’re releasing multiple singles throughout the year, each one building on the sound and storytelling we’ve been crafting. We’re also gearing up for some live gigs in Portugal this summer, which we can’t wait for—it’s always special to bring our music to a live audience. And of course, there might be a few surprises along the way… but we’ll keep those under wraps for now!
