Samuel Virgo Brings Two EPs Together on Laughing in the Wilderness
Samuel Virgo’s Laughing in the Wilderness brings two stages of his recent work into one album. Released on 23 October 2026, the project combines last year’s Virgo EP with Virgo II, connecting the Sheffield-born, London-based artist’s earlier material with the chapter introduced by “ICU” and “Slip Away.”
According to the accompanying release notes, Virgo wrote, produced and engineered the project himself. That approach continues a shift he previously discussed with Exposed Vocals: moving beyond the Svirgo19 name and making music under his own identity, with greater control over its direction.
Two chapters, one collection
The current campaign puts “The Word” in focus. One of the first songs written for the project, it closes Virgo II and considers how much can turn on a single word. The release notes place it within Virgo’s mix of indie, alternative, hip-hop and post-punk influences, while the wider project addresses identity, relationships and growing up.
Those themes connect the album with EV’s earlier coverage. “Slip Away” approached the feeling of losing yourself in a relationship, while his ICU interview explored narratives, perception and the difficulty of recognizing what is true. The combined release places those songs within a broader body of work.
