Phil Vincent Returns with the Melodic Hard-Rock Range of “Passive Aggressive”

Phil Vincent has spent more than three decades releasing music, and Passive Aggressive arrives with the energy of an artist still interested in range: forceful hard rock, melodic detail and quieter emotional pivots inside one record.

Eleven tracks, with more on CD

The digital edition is due October 21 with 11 tracks. The CD expands the sequence with two exclusive recordings: Vincent’s version of Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself” and “Turn Up the Music,” originally recorded by Sammy Hagar.

The standard program also includes his interpretation of the Eagles’ “After the Thrill Is Gone,” placing familiar songwriting beside new originals such as “Storm on the Rise,” “Better Wake Up,” “Dying on the Inside” and “Memory of Yesterday.”

A broad melodic-rock vocabulary

The release materials trace the album’s roots through Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Max Webster, The Beatles, Stryper, Eagles, Eric Carmen and Crack the Sky. The list is wide, but its connective tissue is melody: riffs and hooks designed to carry emotional weight rather than compete for space.

“Storm on the Rise” provides the first public doorway into the project. The song’s video foregrounds the driving side of the record while leaving room for the more reflective material promised across the complete sequence.

A mostly self-contained studio force

Vincent handles vocals, rhythm and lead guitars, bass, keyboards and drums across the project. Longtime collaborators Max Piccolo and Vince O’Regan contribute drums and lead guitar, while Shaun McGovern appears on “Memory of Yesterday.” Jacob Hansen mastered the album.

That arrangement keeps the record centered on one musical identity while allowing outside players to sharpen particular moments. The result is presented as a continuation of Vincent’s prolific catalog rather than a stylistic reset.
