Found in the Inbox: A.CHAL Rides Slow on “Round Whippin
In this story
A.CHAL walks the line between chilled-out R&B and head-bobbing hip-hop, and the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Round Whippin” calls 2015 the year of a huge coming-out party, built on sneaky hits like “Round Whippin” and “GAZI.”
Peruvian roots, two coasts
The Los Angeles-based singer and producer channels Peruvian roots and eclectic influences into a distinct, seductive style, cultivated between New York and Los Angeles over five years. The Ballroom Riots EP came first. Three years later came “GAZI,” co-produced with Grammy-nominated producer Count Justice, a moody, self-reflective record about the blurred line between “making it happen” and “faking it till you make it.”
Setting a standard
“This song’s appeal has been a blessing,” A.CHAL told Complex, in comments the campaign shared. “Coming with the video took some time, as I wanted to give the people a visual the would make the same impact & set a standard for myself.” The streak carried into 2016 with the debut album Welcome to GAZI.
Why it was in the inbox
“Round Whippin” is the kind of record that grows by word of mouth, and the campaign was right that more was coming.
