Found in the Inbox: Disciples of Babylon Let “Karma” Work

Disciples of Babylon is an international rock band based in Hollywood, founded in 2012: Eric Knight on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Ramon Blanco on lead guitar, Gui Bodi on bass and Chris Toeller on drums. The Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Karma” traces it to a Musicians Institute alumni event, where Knight met Blanco after seeing a YouTube video of Blanco teaching guitar solos.

A song at the first meeting

The chemistry was immediate: the two wrote “Arrived” the day they met. Bodi, a schoolmate and past collaborator of Blanco’s, joined on bass, and the trio started writing at once.

Welcome to Babylon

In May 2014 the band recorded the three-song debut EP Welcome to Babylon, opening with “Karma,” then the melancholy “Arrived” and closing with “The Great Pretend.” It was produced by Grammy winner Andres Torres, known for Latin rock, in a first project with an American rock band, and mastered at Sterling Sound by Grammy-nominated Joe LaPorta, whose credits include Foo Fighters, The Killers, Imagine Dragons and Vampire Weekend.

Why it was in the inbox

A world-class team on a three-song debut is a statement of intent. “Karma” is the hook that earns it.
