Morgan Wallen Reimagines Nothing But Thieves’ ‘Graveyard Whistling’ With an Alt-Rock Sound
Morgan Wallen is at it again, putting his spin on the English rock band Nothing But Thieves’ track “Graveyard Whistling.” Releasing his alt-rock rendition as an Amazon Music Original cover on June 27, Wallen dives into a fresh sound that showcases his musical versatility. The roots of this song reach back to March 2024 when Wallen first unveiled “Graveyard Whistling” as part of his celebrated Abbey Road Sessions series on YouTube. These covers were crafted in the iconic Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios in London, adding a dash of history to Wallen’s contemporary take on the track.
Adding to the excitement, Amazon Music will be dropping a limited-edition 7” version of “Graveyard Whistling” on Sept. 19, featuring the B-side track “Dark Til Daylight.” Originally released by Nothing But Thieves on their 2015 self-titled debut album, the song delves into themes of love, sorrow, and past emotional scars. The band’s previous hit “Trip Switch” even ascended to the top of Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart back in 2016, cementing their place in the rock music scene.
Wallen’s rendition of “Graveyard Whistling” hits the airwaves as his latest album, “I’m the Problem,” continues its reign atop the Billboard 200 chart for the fifth consecutive week. Since its launch on May 16, the album has shattered records, becoming the most-streamed country album on its debut day on Amazon Music. Not stopping there, Wallen’s collaboration with Tate McRae on “What I Want” remains a chart-topper on the Hot Country Songs chart for a remarkable fifth week, further solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
Taking his success to the stage, Wallen recently kicked off his headlining “I’m The Problem Tour” with a bang, performing two electrifying shows at Houston’s NRG Stadium on June 20-21. The tour’s next stop promises even more excitement, with a back-to-back show at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, on June 28-29. During the NRG Stadium shows, Wallen had the crowd buzzing as he welcomed a lineup of top-tier celebrities to join him, including the likes of Drake, Roger Clemens, Andre Johnson, and the Houston legend known as “Mattress Mack.”
In a music landscape saturated with cookie-cutter tracks, Wallen’s fresh take on “Graveyard Whistling” stands out as a testament to his willingness to push boundaries and explore new sounds. With each performance and release, he cements his status as a dynamic force in the music world, captivating audiences with his raw talent and undeniable charisma. Keep a close eye on this rising star, as he continues to redefine what it means to be a trailblazer in the ever-evolving realm of music.
