Madi Diaz Covers Blink-182’s Enema of the State in Full — All Proceeds Go to Immigration Legal Aid
Singer-songwriter Madi Diaz has taken a pop-punk classic and flipped it on its head — not just musically, but politically. In a surprise release, Diaz dropped Enema of the Garden State, a full-album cover of Blink-182’s 1999 breakthrough LP, Enema of the State. The project is more than nostalgia: 100% of proceeds will benefit the Defending Our Neighbors Fund, which provides legal aid to immigrants and families facing deportation.
Originally recorded as a fun, one-off studio experiment, Diaz and her collaborators “just ripped through the songs,” she says, with “no planning, no overthinking.” But as ICE crackdowns and anti-immigrant sentiment intensified, Diaz saw a deeper purpose behind the reinterpretation of a record that was once just suburban teen angst.
“The irony of the album title felt too timely to ignore,” Diaz wrote on her Bandcamp page. “Enema of the State—it’s hilariously current and politically, culturally, socially insanely ironic.”
Renamed Enema of the Garden State — a nod to Diaz’s own roots and perhaps a wink to Garden State-era indie — the release offers a stripped-down, emotionally reimagined take on tracks like “All the Small Things,” “Adam’s Song,” and “What’s My Age Again?” Diaz trades in Blink’s bratty, big-hook energy for something more introspective, often haunting.
The record is available exclusively on Bandcamp, with all funds going directly to the Defending Our Neighbors Fund, a program that supplies legal representation and emergency relief for immigrants caught in ICE raids or facing deportation.
“I didn’t set out to make a political record,” Diaz said, “but I couldn’t ignore the fact that we’re living in a time where entire families are being ripped apart at our borders.”
Diaz’s bold move reminds us how powerful reinterpretation can be — and how punk, at its core, was always meant to challenge systems.
