Found in the Inbox: Macy Medford Brings Musical Theater Energy to “I’m Done
In this story
Macy Medford grew up in Katy, Texas, started in the music industry at 12 and, at 19, was studying in Belmont University’s selective musical theater program in Nashville. The Rive Video Promotion campaign for “I’m Done” packs in an early résumé: a national Disney Channel commercial at 12, the grand prize of the Dallas Songwriters Association contest for “Just Me and You,” shows opening for Kidz Bop at the House of Blues and a Pop Artist of the Year nomination at the Los Angeles Music Awards at 14.
Songs as refuge
“My songs tend to focus on anything that is going on in my life at the time – boys, friends, and heartbreak,” Macy explains. “But at the heart of every song is a sense of empowerment to overcome every day struggles. I want people to be able to laugh and let loose when they listen to my music, but I also want my music to be a place of refuge.” Houston-based InPlay Records planned a new EP, and InPlay CEO Eddie Corral called Macy “one of the most amazing, gifted talents I have ever worked with.”
Larger than life on stage
The theater roots run deep, from Annie at age 8 to Janet Van de Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone and Marion the Librarian in The Music Man. “I’m a musical theatre major – so I plan on incorporating that larger-than-life experience that a musical can give an audience,” Macy says of the live show.
Why it was in the inbox
“I’m Done” is a pop kiss-off written with a stage performer’s sense of timing.
