This song came together very fast when I was writing it … as an answer to questions I was asking myself .When we recorded it , I wanted to sing in a way I had only rarely sung before ( on an Odetta cover of Waterboy ) and to give the backing vocals freedom to be as wild as they wanted …
New single Into The Light is the atmospheric and sometimes opaque album’s most jubilant song, it’s title and lyrical refrain taps into the biblical references peppered throughout the long-player, with themes of darkness to light, the ‘ringing bell’ in the album’s title representing a wake-up call, with the album ultimately celebrating the present not the past, and the joyous, liberating freedom and new found understanding of one’s own strength post a period of struggle and survival.
Having released critically acclaimed albums with her band Madam over the last decade, as well as collaborating with the likes of Tricky, multi-disciplinary artist Sukie Smith has now announced the release of her debut solo album, The Glass Dress and a Ringing Bell.
