Here’s How to Enter Submissions for AIM’s 2025 Independent Music Awards
The U.K.’s Association of Independent Music (AIM) is gearing up for an electrifying return of its Independent Music Awards this fall on September 23 in London. As the event enters its 15th year, the iconic Roundhouse venue will play host to a dazzling showcase of artists, labels, and entrepreneurs from the vibrant independent music community, a sector that accounts for a significant portion of the U.K.’s recorded music market.
With categories ranging from U.K. independent breakthrough to best independent EP/mixtape and best independent remix, the awards also highlight individual talents such as best live performer. AIM Rightsholder members have the advantage of submitting entrants for free, with submissions currently open through the organization’s official website until July 9, 11:59 p.m. GMT. Non-members can also submit entries for a fee, though discounts are available for AIM-affiliated organizations focused on fostering diversity within the industry.
For those eyeing the categories of EDI champion, independent music champion, and music entrepreneur of the year, entry is free and open to all. Detailed information on all categories and submission guidelines can be accessed through the AIM website. Not all categories are open for general submissions, as outstanding contribution to music, the innovator award, and the PPL award for most played new independent artist will be internally decided by AIM.
The highly anticipated show will offer tickets for sale later in the summer, following in the footsteps of last year’s ceremony which honored pop legends Sparks with the outstanding contribution to music award, and acclaimed artist Neneh Cherry with the innovator award. Music Venue Trust and Drift Records also received accolades, highlighting the diverse excellence within the independent music scene.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Independent Music Awards will introduce the reintroduction of AIM’s local music champions, now under the moniker of Local Heroes in collaboration with BBC Introducing. This special accolade will spotlight individuals who have contributed significantly to their local music community or catalyzed positive changes within the wider music landscape.
Expressing excitement, Gee Davy, CEO of AIM, shared: “We are thrilled to bring back the U.K.’s most vibrant music community awards to the Roundhouse, celebrating the immense talent and creativity present in the independent music scene. The Independent Music Awards serve as the perfect platform to honor and commend those who often operate behind the scenes, yet shape the cultural landscape with their impactful music and invaluable contributions.”
The Independent Music Awards will cap off AIM’s dynamic calendar of events for 2025, following the AIM Connected conference set for September 9 at Rich Mix in Shoreditch. This gathering promises to gather business leaders and senior managers from the independent music sector for insightful discussions and networking opportunities, underscoring AIM’s commitment to nurturing and championing the independent music community.
