Found in the Inbox: DownTown Mystic Builds Mystic Highway Around Its Players
In this story
DownTown Mystic’s Somebody’s Always Doin’ Something 2 Somebody arrives in the archive with a story about musicianship as much as a story about a single. The promotional notes from Sha-La Music place the recording alongside the six-song Mystic Highway EP, describing a project built around writer and producer Robert Allen and the musicians invited to shape each part.
The mailout’s chronology points to the 2025 campaign: US radio on October 7, streaming on October 10 and the EP on November 7 through The Orchard/Sony Music. Those dates are now part of the release history. Revisited in October 2026, the material should be approached as an existing recording rather than a new announcement. The notes also name a video created by Richard Levinsohn and the Rick Lee Vinson Group, identifying it as the project’s first AI-created video.
On the single, keyboard player Jeff Levine contributes Moog, piano and organ. The EP’s wider personnel include drummer Steve Holley and bassist Paul Page, who appear together on five of its six tracks. For Allen, the campaign explains, the players and the distinct abilities they bring are central to the DownTown Mystic idea. That gives the release a concrete angle beyond the broad category of roots rock.
The guitar credits develop that idea further. Lance Doss brings his playing to History and Modern Ways. Longtime collaborator Bruce Engler co-wrote and sings Read The Signs, which also appears on his One More Chance album featuring DownTown Mystic. Justin Jordan contributes guitar and mandolin to Some Day. The notes describe a collection in which individual musicians are selected for the roles they can play inside particular songs.
The same campaign places the release within Allen’s work in music licensing. It reports placements for three songs across the 2025 films Everything’s Going to Be Great and Sovereign. Rather than treating the studio catalogue and screen work as separate identities, the biography presents them as connected outlets for the project’s writing and recordings.
Mystic Highway therefore offers a useful entry point into DownTown Mystic through its working relationships. The single’s credits begin with one keyboard player; the EP opens outward into a network of recurring collaborators, co-writers and side projects. This archive discovery directs attention to those named contributions and to the recordings they produced together. Explore the project through its official social channels and supplied streaming link; the historical campaign also mentioned an On E Street Remix project whose present status requires a current update.
