EV: Thank you for being part of our interview, Heartmeat. We would love to learn more about the band and the musicianship. Tell us more about the beginnings?

Heartmeat -We began as something to just kinda express our art. It was lilly and I just jamming. I had already written some and kinda wanted to go in this more acoustic fingerpicking kinda direction. Just two pals making art. I wrote the songs and she sang them. As time went on I started to sing them more and kinda forged on as she got more busy with her career. I’ve kinda just taken what we started and ran with it. Been one man banding it. But it’s worked out.

Exposed Vocals: Please describe the challenges and advantages of being a solo artist.

Heartmeat -The main challenge for me is it’s always nice to have more instruments when detailing an overall melody. Add to the mood. But you make do with what you got. Fingerpicking stuff I usually can play the rhythm and melody at once but sometimes it’d be nice to have more but sometimes with more intimate songs Less is More.

EV: If Heartmeat could share the stage with any artist living or dead who would it be?

Heartmeat -ugh it’s hard to nail down this one. Cause their are lots. But I can shoot 3. Jose Gonzalez, Neil Halstead (solo), or Laura Marling. These three kinda have the same style we have. And it would be siiiiiiccckkkk regardless because they’re good!

EV: Top Musical inspirations for Heartmeat?

Heartmeat -Magnetic Fields (big fan of Stephin Merritt), Cat Stevens, Neil Halstead, Jose Gonzalez, Laura Marling. There’s lots more but these are the ones that come immediately to mind.

EV: Can you tell us a bit about your recording process and how do you find inspiration while recording?

Heartmeat -With recording I have a backlog of songs and it’s just trying to narrow down which ones to pick. Then painstakingly self loathe over them until it’s done. Lol.

EV: Will your new music be released on vinyl?

Heartmeat -maybe at sometime in the future but as of right now it’s not financially feasible for me.

EV: Where will our readers be able to purchase new Heartmeat music?

Heartmeat  -Really anywhere you get your music online. Apple, Spotify, etc
