| Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up? Kahlil ; i actually got a follow from @randymarano on twitter he direct messaged me with the information && i was interested , i appreciate the avenue he created for us indie artist to be heard .
Kahlil; i grew up in Brooklyn NY and i actually been singing since the 2nd grade , i always have been musically inclined , as i got older i began song writing , tapped in to my inner lyrics and also began rapping , i took it really seriously when a good friend of mines passed in 2012 , he also had the passion for music i do this for him.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it? Kahlil; well i always liked my real name Kahlil , which is also my artist name it sounds versatile since im a singer && rapper so i rocked with it . Its also authentic ! Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why? Kahlil; i love the way online music sharing works especially because of social media being a huge platform , i do give away free music , why? Because i feel thats my duty as an indie artist to keep my fans interested , plus no ones gonna buy your music unless your actually known and have a huge following ! Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips? Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that? Kahlil; yes I’ve made mistakes , always good to learn from them i just keep performing it helps me better myself && build self confidence even major artist mess up all the time never let it break you , strive and you will succeed
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about? Kahlil; i never actually been on tour but i performed a lot in nyc since it is my hometown i once fell at a performance i was pretty embarrassed but i continued and made it look like it was part of the act .
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? Kahlil; well i usually get my inspiration from beats && what i feel inside at the moment i hear the beat , thats how i pick my beats as well , i have to have some kind of spiritual connection to the sound its hard to explain. I always make sure my songs are relatable , i like to touch the people the best way is to express how you feel, i take bottled up emotions and put em in a song it usually comes out naturally i don’t think about it to much .i go with the flow Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music? Kahlil:no i don’t have a band website. i usually share my performances && music visuals on Facebook or youtube heres some links check it out. Kahlil; i dont have any , i do have unfinished songs that are waiting to be finished in the studio they never left protools .: Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it? Kahlil;I would put majority of it in the bank so i would have for studio && promotion, buy my mom a house , regardless of days off I’m always writing new music coming up with melodies for hooks i have to make sure I’m on top of my game a year off is too long i wouldn’t do it Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now? Kahlil; my studio is pretty good for now right now my studio has Digidesign Pro Tools/Control 24, 96khz 24bit Digital Recording,Neumann TLM 127 Microphone, Avalon VT-737 SP Mic Preamp, Apogee Rosetta A/D Converter. Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you? Kahlil; well right now i pay 300 to 500 dollars when i do have the funds to popular Facebook pages that consist of 5.1 million followers its pretty reliable and gets to people all over the world instantly. Ive gotten alot of exposure doing this lately Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why? Kahlil; i would love to perform with chris brown at the barclays center hes one of my favorite artist. Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about? Kahlil; well right now im working on an album called “beginning of fortune” its gonna be epic its almost done cant wait. Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Kahlil; honestly i don’t know probably still in the streets. Music really changed my mind set and put me on a positive path i am highly appreciative for my talent and understanding life is what we make it . Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head? Kahlil; the first album i ever bought was 50cent get rich or die trying i remember buying a second copy because my first one got scratched up and i was really young at the time i really don’t remember what i was thinking but i know mommy beat me for singing the curses one day . Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life? Kahlil;i just go with the flow I’m really confident in my music && i know one day i will be successful because of it , its a matter of just getting it heard and expanding but to do so i need money for promotion and its hard to do it alone as an indie artist so i just try to stay positive and continue coming up with new ideas. Hopefully i will come across an investor to help put me on the map. Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
