Exposed Vocals: Your new album Reality Check is set to drop on March 27, 2025. What inspired the title, and how does it reflect your personal journey as a Nigerian-Italian artist?
Jahonze: Reality Check is a reflection of my experiences as a traveler, migrant, and the adversities of navigating life between worlds as a music artist.
Exposed Vocals: The singles “Immigrant” and “Black Crime” have already gained significant traction. What message do you hope these songs convey, and why did you choose them as lead singles?
Jahonze: “Immigrant” and “Black Crime” are songs filled with messages of life experiences, meant to enlighten people about the importance of realizing that we are one, regardless of race, color, or where we find ourselves. Life is something we all share, and that message made these songs worthy of being lead singles.
Exposed Vocals: Your music is known for blending African and European influences. How do you approach fusing these sounds, and what unique elements can fans expect from this album?
Jahonze: Yes, my ability to fuse sounds is unpredictable. Being influenced by my heritage and the cultures I’ve encountered is a real challenge, but it’s also inspiring. Expect something superb.
Exposed Vocals: Migration, identity, and social justice are central themes in Reality Check. How have your own experiences shaped the stories you tell through your music?
Jahonze: My experiences as a migrant are shared in my song “Immigrant.” The depth of the album’s tracks truly makes it a Reality Check album.
Exposed Vocals: Many artists find music to be a form of activism. Do you see yourself as an activist through your art, and what impact do you hope Reality Check will have on social conversations?
Jahonze: All I can say is that I make music and share my experiences through it. If my confidence in music naturally takes the form of activism, then so be it. Reality Check will allow listeners to take a deeper look into life, nature, and reality.
Exposed Vocals: You’ve received praise for your powerful performances and thought-provoking lyrics. What is your creative process like when writing and producing a track?
Jahonze: Talent takes a process in today’s world. Composing, writing, beat production, vocals—everything takes time and effort to complete a track.
Exposed Vocals: You’re planning live performances to support the album. What can fans expect from your shows, and how do you bring the themes of Reality Check to life on stage?
Jahonze: Fans should expect greatness. I will bring my positive energy and ensure it resonates well during my shows. All I expect in return is love and motivation to showcase the themes of Reality Check on stage.
Exposed Vocals: As an artist navigating the music scenes in both Nigeria and Europe, what are some challenges you’ve faced, and how have they influenced your artistry?
Jahonze: Honestly, it has been a struggle. Being an immigrant comes with difficult processes and delays, sometimes due to race or lack of acceptance because of color. But I try to maintain balance so I don’t lose focus on my music career.
Exposed Vocals: Collaboration is a big part of modern music. Did you work with any special producers or artists on Reality Check? If so, how did they contribute to the album’s vision?
Jahonze: Yes, I worked with producers and artists on Reality Check. Their contributions are reflected throughout the album and are a vital part of its sound.
Exposed Vocals: With Reality Check on the horizon, what’s next for Jahonze? Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or goals you’re excited to pursue after this release?
Jahonze: First, I want to ensure Reality Check reaches everyone. After that, I plan to focus on shows, tours, and concerts. I also look forward to collaborating with other brands and artists while continuing to pursue my music career.
