Divergent — “Rev It Up” (Official Music Video)
About Divergent
For many artists, music is the ultimate vessel for transcendence — something speaks directly to the soul. Power trio Divergent aims to channel that undeniable intoxication as they chase the next great rock classic. After years of grappling with what-ifs, an enduring love for music (and a bit of perfect timing) ultimately prevailed and a 40-year-old dream became reality.
James Richards (Lead vocals/guitars/keyboards), Mike McAlister (bass/vocals) and Paul Richards (drums/vocals) exist in a constant state of creative fixation, dreaming up intricate, layered soundscapes. In 2024 they chose a name that reflects their untamable curiosity, establishing a collaborative process that encourages each member’s vision to shine and refusing to let the trends of a volatile industry dictate their path. With their debut album under their belt, the band is more poised than ever to show there’s no fear in making music that stands out — and that it’s never too late to fulfill that purpose. Grounded, confident, and brimming with new ideas, their growth is already evident and their sophomore record, “Rev It Up”, goes full-throttle.
About “Rev It Up” and the Music Video
Few things in life complement each other better than rock and classic cars — they’re both thunderous, adrenaline-pumping and tinged with danger. On a late-night joyride with the windows down and the pedal to the floor, “Rev It Up” — a simple staple that embodies the effervescent staying power of good old-fashioned, golden era rock — is the anthem to crank. Wailing guitars, commanding drums and gritty vocals swagger with the rebellion of bands like Boston or Kansas, capturing the restless attitude of a true rocker: someone who’s only “got one life,” so they “need to live it fast.” Each blazing guitar solo and soaring harmony strikes an impressive balance between a studio-polished and an arena-ready sound, revealing musicians driven to push their songs to the absolute limit. Divergent knows that there’s now “no way they slow”. Whether or not they’re “Hellbound for Mexico” or racing toward rock glory, there’s “no way in hell” anyone in their rearview is catching up anytime soon.
It’s one thing to write about the cool cars and roaring motorcycles of fantastical, mythical rockers long relegated to the dustbin of the past — but it’s entirely another to be the kind of people who actually own them and drive them down winding streets with effortless cool. Divergent’s vibe goes far beyond the stage, seeping into everything they do. While their previous two music videos found the band a studio setting — solidifying their identity as an original force, this brand-new visual — brought to life with the help of HIP Video Productions — puts fantasy front and center and Divergent in the driver’s seat. It’s a refreshing snapshot of rock-n-roll as a contemporary way of life. With Divergent at the helm, “Rev It Up” is the kind of scene that makes classic rock mythology feel unquestionably present tense.

My life’s been runnin’ slow It’s kind of a drag
I need a turbo boost I need it fast
I’ve got places that I need to go No time to waste
I’ve got to make the show
I’ve got one life, I need to live it fast
I’m in a race, there’s no way I’ll finish last
Rev it up Rev it up (4 times)
I’ve got my pedal to the metal Let’s go!
There’s no stoppin’ cause I need big mo
No lookin’ back cause I’m just haulin’ some ass
Move on over, cause I need to pass
No time for whinin’ and cryin’ all night long No!
Don’t complain about it, then we’ll get along
Rev it up Rev it up (4 times)
Rev it up Rev it up Rev it up (2 times)
I’m runnin’ hot and I just won’t let it go
If I redline then my engine blows
I’m at the limit, there’s no way I slow
Hellbound for Mexico
I see the red lights closin’ on my tail
They won’t catch me, there’s no way in hell
Rev it up Rev it up (4 times)
Rev it up Rev it up Rev it up (2 times)
Rev it up Rev it up Rev it up (2 times)
Whoo!
