David Felker Departs Westwood One After 38 Legendary Years
Broadcasting veteran David Felker has officially stepped down from Westwood One, marking the close of an extraordinary 38-year career with the network. His exit comes in the wake of recent consolidation and downsizing at the company, which today operates under the Cumulus Media umbrella.
Felker’s tenure is practically a living history of modern syndicated radio. Joining the then-nascent Transtar in 1987, he stayed through every evolutionary stage of the network’s identity — from Transtar to UniStar, then Dial Global, and finally Westwood One. Throughout it all, Felker wore many hats: Music Director, Program Director, Operations Manager, and ultimately, Vice President of Programming.
Reflecting on his nearly four decades in the business, Felker remained gracious and forward-looking:
“I couldn’t have asked for a better run in the business—working with so many talented, creative, and professional employees, coworkers, and friends.”
Before his monumental stretch at Westwood One, Felker cut his teeth in Los Angeles radio beginning in 1978 — a foundational era that would eventually see him help shape the landscape of syndicated programming across the country.
As the radio world continues to shift with the times, Felker’s departure signals more than just a retirement — it\u2019s the closing of a chapter written by one of the industry’s true stalwarts.
Whatever his next move may be, David Felker leaves behind a legacy that new generations of broadcasters will be chasing for years to come.
