Busta Rhymes Countersues Former Assistant Over ‘False’ Assault Allegations
Hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes is firing back in court, filing a defamation lawsuit against his former assistant Dashiel Gables, who earlier this year accused the rapper of physical assault and workplace abuse.
In a lawsuit filed this summer, Gables alleged that Rhymes punched him during a heated exchange in a Brooklyn condo lobby — reportedly triggered when Gables tried to respond to a message from his daughter. The assistant also described a toxic work environment, unpaid overtime, and bizarre demands — including one claim that another staffer was forced to unclog a toilet with their bare hands.
Rhymes is not taking the accusations lightly. In his countersuit, the rapper and his company Starbus, LLC have categorically denied all allegations and are accusing Gables of a calculated attempt to damage his career and reputation.
“This is nothing more than a shake-down by a disgruntled ex-employee,” Rhymes said through his legal team, calling the claims “provably false and malicious.”
The countersuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, a public retraction, and coverage of legal fees.
This legal battle puts Busta Rhymes in the headlines for reasons other than music — but he’s no stranger to controversy. With a career spanning over three decades, he’s weathered both industry shifts and personal storms. Whether this case goes to trial or is settled quietly behind closed doors, one thing’s for sure: Busta isn’t backing down.
We’ll be following the case closely. Stay tapped in with Exposed Vocals for updates on this story and everything else moving the culture.
