Found in the Inbox: SayWeCanFly Opens Up on “Driftwood Heart
In this story
Braden Barrie, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Lindsay, Ontario, has recorded as SayWeCanFly since 2009 and built a following of nearly 1.2 million on social media. The Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Driftwood Heart” caught Barrie fresh off the Vans Warped Tour’s Acoustic Basement stage and ready to release the Darling EP, the first SayWeCanFly release on Epitaph.
A dream on the Warped Tour
“The Warped Tour was something I dreamed of doing since I started SayWeCanFly,” Barrie says. “It felt like home but it also felt like the craziest place I’ve ever been and I couldn’t believe I was able to play for a completely packed tent every day of the tour.”
Songs written in a day
The EP was recorded at The Green Room in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. “The whole recording process was just a long hangout with some microphones,” Barrie explains. The songs came in 24 hours: “It was just one of those days where I was able to pour my feelings onto paper without trying.” This time some songs got heavier instruments. “Acoustic music will forever be my passion and it will always come down to just me and my acoustic guitar,” Barrie says, “but I like expressing certain songs in different ways in the studio.”
Why it was in the inbox
“The studio is the doorway between my heart and our world,” Barrie says. “Driftwood Heart” leaves that door open.
