I was 20, playing Coheed and Cambria on my SG through my Line 6 Spider Half Stack, and my roommates were older musicians. Much older. They knew that I wanted to play music professionally and they kept telling me to listen to Steely Dan. I just kept thinking to myself, “Who is this Steely Dan guy? He sounds like a lame old dude.” We were listening to the radio a few weeks later, and this song came on and I said, “Wait, this is Steely Dan?”
“Yup”
“Oh…this is really good.”
