What it is: The Showcasing Artist Application is the route to an official performance slot at the SXSW Music Festival, part of SXSW’s March 15–21, 2027 program in Austin, Texas.
Who it’s for: Artists and bands with a developed live show and a clear career plan. SXSW says its programming team weighs originality, technical ability, songwriting and career trajectory, and also considers social media presence, streaming numbers, show experience, release timelines and tour scheduling.
How it works: Sign in to (or create) an SXSW account, open the Music Festival Showcase application and submit it by November 20, 2026. SXSW’s application page currently lists the application fee at $80. SXSW says applicants should receive a confirmation email within 48 hours and should follow up by email if it does not arrive.
Worth knowing: Artists do not need to buy a badge to apply or to perform. SXSW describes its Showcasing Artist Badge as providing Platinum Badge access plus artist-only benefits; its application pages do not publish a performance fee, so plan travel and lodging costs before applying. Acts that are not selected can buy a badge at the lowest available rate after notification, and SXSW does not refund registrations bought at a higher rate.
