The Rebuild: Goals → Work → Results
This history begins where EV’s development direction fundamentally changed: from improving a publication/member site to building a purpose-built music platform.
PHASE 1 · EV 1.0 · THE IDENTITY LAYER
Goal: Make an EV profile more than an account.
Problem: Editorial coverage, music, video, releases and professional identity lived in separate places.
Direction: Turn profiles into living EPKs that connect an artist’s work, EV coverage, outside press and professional information.
Result: The profile became the foundation for the larger platform rather than a static member page.
Status: SHIPPED → CONTINUING TO EVOLVE
PHASE 2 · EV 2.0 · THE PLATFORM REBUILD
Goal: Turn EV into a connected platform rather than a collection of separate experiences.
Direction: Bring profiles, activity, relationships, discovery, matching, community participation, charts and video into one coherent EV experience.
Result: A purpose-built EV platform became the new foundation. Native profiles, Signal activity, follows/connections, matching, community standards, voting/charts and Watch formed the platform baseline.
Milestone: By this stage the rebuild was backed by hundreds of automated quality checks.
Status: FOUNDATION SHIPPED
PHASE 2 · EV 2.1 · SIGNAL BECOMES THE CONNECTIVE LAYER
Goal: Make activity on EV create visible momentum instead of disappearing into isolated pages.
Direction: Connect posts, replies, reactions, alerts, profile activity, voting, charts and platform actions through Signal.
Result: Signal posts, replies, reactions, alerts, moderation, profile walls, EV Verified, voting/charts and Signal Path were established as native EV systems.
Status: SHIPPED · SCORING/UX STILL BEING REFINED
PHASE 2 · EV 2.2 · DISCOVERY BECOMES A NETWORK
Goal: Connect Profiles → Signal → Editorial proof → Footprint → Matches → Opportunities.
Direction: Build discovery for multiple profile types rather than treating every visitor as only an artist or listener. Add Watch, Charts, matching, professional profiles and clearer platform navigation.
Result: Watch, Charts, Discover, matching and the broader multi-sided EV network took shape. Signal was defined as momentum/visibility/activity rather than a simple popularity score.
Status: SHIPPED · MATCH QUALITY + DISCOVERY ORDERING ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT
PHASE 2 · EV 2.3 · FROM DISCOVERY TO WORKFLOW
Goal: Let EV relationships lead somewhere.
Direction: Connect platform identity and discovery to opportunities, services, orders and an understandable user journey.
Result: Orders and services advanced, and a guided tour mapped the journey through Profile, Signal, Wire, Watch, Discover, Matches, Opportunities, Charts, Scorecard, Orders and Alerts.
Status: CORE WORKFLOW SHIPPED · OPERATIONS CONTINUE TO MATURE
PHASE 3 · EV 3.0 · THE NEW EV GOES LIVE
Goal: Put the new platform in front of the real Exposed Vocals community.
Result: The new EV platform went live with Signal, Charts, Discover, Matches, Watch, editorial surfaces and profiles. Polishing continued after launch rather than being treated as finished prematurely.
Status: LIVE · REFINEMENT CONTINUED
PHASE 3 · EV 3.1 · MAKE THE PLATFORM FEEL LIKE ONE PRODUCT
Goal: Make every part of EV feel like one coherent product.
Result: Homepage redesign, navigation rails, footer/logo work, Charts, Discover filters, matching/client fixes, Connections, Watch navigation and guest previews moved the experience toward a consistent platform shell.
Status: SHIPPED · RESPONSIVE/UX REFINEMENT CONTINUES
PHASE 4 · EV 4.0 · COMMUNITY-SHAPED DEVELOPMENT
Goal: Stop treating development as something users only see after it ships.
Direction: Open the development process itself. Publish goals, outcomes and unresolved questions; let artists, labels, management, PR, promoters, industry and listeners tell us what actually helps.
Result: The EV Development Lab begins here.
Status: NOW
What’s Next: Planned Releases
EV ships in quarterly release cycles. Each planned release starts with a goal, not a feature list, and every item can move, grow or be cut based on what the community tells us here.
NEXT QUARTER · EV 4.1 · THE OPEN LOOP
Goal: Make community feedback visibly change the platform.
Planned: Development feedback and official EV responses surface on the Live Wall. Lab items carry clear stages (Planned → Building → Testing → Shipped) so anyone can follow an idea from request to result.
Also planned: Faster, more complete search across artists, industry profiles and editorial. Cleaner sharing previews when EV links are posted to social platforms.
Status: PLANNED
FOLLOWING QUARTER · EV 4.2 · SIGNAL YOU CAN READ
Goal: Help members understand their momentum and what moves it.
Planned: Clearer Signal history and scorecards that explain momentum in plain language. Charts views by profile type, so artists, labels, managers, PR and promoters are compared with peers rather than with everyone at once.
Also planned: Smoother profile claiming for artists and companies already featured on EV.
Status: PLANNED
TWO QUARTERS OUT · EV 4.3 · BETTER MATCHES, REAL OUTCOMES
Goal: Turn connections into collaborations, coverage and work.
Planned: Higher-quality two-sided matching, richer professional profiles for industry members, and opportunities that connect directly to the right people on EV.
Also planned: More flexible editorial and service options, including one-off release coverage for smaller agencies and independent artists.
Status: EXPLORING
HORIZON · EV 5.0 · THE MUSIC NETWORK
Goal: Make EV the place where independent music and the industry around it meet.
Direction: A mobile-first experience, deeper discovery across every profile type, and a network where editorial proof, Signal, video and professional relationships reinforce each other.
Status: VISION · SHAPED BY YOUR FEEDBACK
UNDER THE SIGNAL · PRODUCT INTELLIGENCE
EV Is Designed to Measure Momentum, Not Just Popularity.
Signal is the connective intelligence layer across Exposed Vocals. It is designed to interpret meaningful activity in context rather than reduce an artist or industry professional to a follower count, a single vote, or one viral moment.
Signal
Signal considers patterns of meaningful participation, profile strength, audience response, creative activity, professional activity and momentum over time. Different actions can carry different meaning depending on context.
Matching
EV approaches matching as a two-sided relevance problem. A useful match should make sense for both sides — based on identity, goals, fit, activity and the kind of relationship each side is actually seeking.
Discovery
Discovery should surface people and work worth finding, not simply reward whoever already has the largest audience. EV is being shaped to recognize momentum, relevance and credible participation across multiple profile types.
Why this matters
A platform for music cannot use one definition of value. An artist, label, manager, publicist, promoter, industry professional and listener contribute differently. EV’s goal is to understand those differences while still connecting everyone through a shared network.
Designed against gaming
No single public action is intended to control visibility or ranking. EV evaluates patterns rather than publishing a recipe for manipulating outcomes. The principles can be public; the exact weighting, thresholds, integrity controls and protective mechanisms remain private so the system can stay useful and fair.
The feedback loop
Community feedback helps EV evaluate whether the platform is producing useful outcomes: better discovery, more relevant connections, clearer professional identity and more meaningful opportunities. When a development decision changes because of that feedback, the Lab can show the decision and the result without exposing sensitive implementation details.
