Sam Welch: Well I was networking with other musicians and I managed to stumble upon Exposed Vocals they emailed me asking if I wanted to do an interview and i happily said yes!

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Sam Welch: I grew up near Cape Town in South Africa and always had a passion for music and playing music but it wasn’t until I moved to Scotland and attended ‘T In The Park’ that I knew i wanted to turn music into a career. The atmosphere, the crowds it just had such a impact on me. I don’t think ill ever forget that!

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Sam Welch: I decided to keep my own name because I wanted to keep it simple make sure people could identify with me.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Sam Welch: I think online music sharing is one of the best and most resourceful tool to any modern day ambitious artist it allows you to access a huge number of people from right at home! however I feel that while giving away music can be benefiting it degrades peoples view on the artist making it appear as though there work is less valuable so I myself don’t think I would ever do it!

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Sam Welch: I make mistake at least once a gig but you just need to forget it happened and move on to make sure the rest of your performance goes well there is no such thing as a perfect gig!

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

Sam Welch: It usually starts with my playing my guitar and figuring out one part of chords from there I then figure out the song structure and what mood I want to set the song at. Then I tend to figure out the drums, lead guitar and other various instruments. Once I have roughly recorded all the parts I only then begin to write lyrics I find this works best.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Sam Welch: I don’t have a Dedicated website but I use a lot of social media I mostly use Facebook but I also use twitter Google plus and Nimbit!

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

Sam Welch: Hostly there is everything under the sun in there so probably a lot hahaha.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Sam Welch: I would build  my own studio and spend the whole year recording and mixing.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

Sam Welch: well I am upgrading to Genlec monitors and will be getting a few more microphones in the near future but nothing to huge at the moment. Possibly some room treatment but currently I’m running Studio One 2 with a Novation launchkey 49 with my audio interface as the Presonus Audio Box 22VSL and Audio-techinca ATH-200T’s for monitoring as well as my trusty Epiphone ej200ce and Jackson dinky and various other instruments.

Sam Welch: Definitely social media.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

Sam Welch: I would love to work with Butch Vig in his home studio because he is a genuine when it comes to audio production and I highly admire him.
