EV Interview

look forward to the takeover” – Exclusive interview with Kelly G

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Kelly G:  I grew up in Aba, a city that is considered to be one of the most under developed cities in my country (Nigeria) . I decided to become an artiste basically because I wanted to speak out for the voiceless, and I need to put food on my table

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Kelly G:  My birth name is Jim-Kelly. And the G is an acronym for Greatness

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Kelly G:  I think online music sharing is a very great platform for an artist to expand his/her fan base. I have been giving my music out for free to increase my fan base, that might stop when I become more established

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Kelly G:  I’m still a “start-up” compared to my dream goals. But I think the basic key to a mansion of success is prayer. Hardwork, determination and consistency help as well

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Kelly G:  I don’t believe in mistakes, I believe in lessons. Besides, I’m that type of artist that will do almost anything and everything to entertain my audience

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

Kelly G:  I’ve not started touring officially yet but I’ve performed in a lot of cities nationwide and internationally, it’s always a beautiful experience

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

Kelly G:  My inspiration comes from God via my environment or experience. I also love to f*** with my creativity most times

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Kelly G:  I have my reverbnation page – www.reverbnation.com/kellygdike

My soundcloud too – www.soundcloud.com/kellygdike

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

Kelly G:  I have some songs from some A-list artistes in my country that I consider whack lol… I don’t wanna mention names though

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Kelly G:  I will pay the people I owe – God, my mom and my community. Then I’ll take care of myself and career. You don’t wanna know what next

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

Kelly G:  I’m presently working on my mobile studio so I can dish out music more consistently

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

Kelly G:  I don’t think I promote my music, God handles that for me

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

Kelly G: Lil Wayne any day, anytime. In….. around the world

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Kelly G: I have sh*t going on. I don’t wanna let the cat outta the bag yet

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Kelly G:  If I wasn’t making music, I would have been making money lol… I would probably be a businessman

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

Kelly G: I really can’t remember

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

Kelly G: To be honest, I just live and let live. I’m so natural

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

Kelly G:  They should look forward to my takeover
