Lighthouse – Love Of A Woman / One Fine Morning (Vinyl)
This video is meant for the purpose of entertainment only.
Images within this video are taken from various photos & scans of my original Canadian vinyl pressing of Lighthouse “One Fine Morning” (1971) on GRT Records 9230-1002, and my US pressing on Evolution Records ST-93843. Also, a few pictures of the band obtained from the internet, and a couple scans from my compilation CD inner booklet “The Best Of Lighthouse – Sunny Days Again” Denon Records.
The audio transfer was done with an Oracle Delphi MKIII turntable, an SME45 tone arm, and a Vanden Hull MC-10 MC cartridge. Though I suppose after digital transfer to mp3, compression etc…all this is irrelevant.
One of Canada’s most original pop groups ever, Lighthouse was formed in Toronto early in 1969 when drummer Skip Prokop (ex of The Paupers, Janis Joplin, Al Kooper and Carlos Santana) had a vision of incorporating horns and strings with modern rock, sort of a heavy-hitting ‘big band’ sound. After a chance meeting in New York with Paul Hoffert, they began writing the original material which Paul orchestrated, already an established sessions-man. They brought into the fold Ralph Cole, who was actually trained in more classical stylings and relatively new to rock and roll. Originally a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Cole and his band Thyme had actually performed on many bills with The Paupers during the latter half of the decade.
Worth mentioning, is the fact that Howard Shore was a member of this band long before composing the soundtracks for such motion pictures as ‘Lord Of The Rings – Fellowship’, ‘Gangs Of New York’, ‘The Aviator’, and the upcoming ‘The Hobbit’, to name just a few.
