Rock history will be made this summer as Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath say farewell on their own terms—with one of the most powerful lineups ever assembled. Now, two more icons are joining the celebration: Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and the living members of Soundgarden have officially been added to the Back to the Beginning concert, set for July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.
For both acts, the moment carries massive emotional and cultural weight. Steven Tyler, sidelined in 2023 due to a serious vocal cord injury that ultimately led Aerosmith to cancel their farewell tour, has made only a handful of rare appearances since. His return to the stage for this tribute is more than symbolic—it’s a statement.
Soundgarden’s surviving members haven’t played frequently since Chris Cornell’s tragic passing in 2017, reuniting only for key tribute events like the I Am the Highway concert and the Taylor Hawkins tribute in 2022. Their inclusion here promises a heartfelt performance that will surely resonate with fans.
The concert already boasts an all-star cast: Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Mastodon, and Rival Sons are all slated to perform. Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) is curating the experience as musical director, ensuring once-in-a-lifetime collaborations throughout the day.
Expect special sets featuring rock and metal royalty including Billy Corgan, Slash, Jonathan Davis, Lzzy Hale, David Draiman, Wolfgang Van Halen, Fred Durst, Duff McKagan, K.K. Downing, Sammy Hagar, and even actor Jason Momoa. According to Morello, “There’s some pretty great surprises that are not posted anywhere.”
This event isn’t just a concert—it’s the epic send-off Black Sabbath fans have been waiting for. Ozzy has made it clear: the band’s farewell tour never felt like proper closure, especially without original drummer Bill Ward. Now, with original bassist Geezer Butler sharing similar feelings, this night is their chance to rewrite the final chapter.
Back to the Beginning will be more than a concert—it’s a full-circle celebration of Sabbath’s legacy, and a thunderous goodbye to an era of music that changed the world.
