All Eyes on L.A.: Jury Selection Begins in A$AP Rocky Trial
Los Angeles, CA – The trial that’s been two years in the making officially opened today, as jury selection began in the highly anticipated criminal case against rapper A$AP Rocky, who stands accused of assault with a semiautomatic firearm stemming from a 2021 shooting incident involving former friend and A$AP Mob affiliate A$AP Relli.
Security was tight at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, where photographers, reporters, and fans gathered outside for a glimpse of Rocky and Rihanna, who walked into the courthouse by his side. Dressed sharply in black, Rocky remained calm as the legal proceedings began inside.
Inside the courtroom, the atmosphere was tense and procedural as jury selection commenced. With the case drawing national attention and the involvement of a global superstar couple, the pool of potential jurors was significantly expanded. More than 300 individuals were summoned, with the court working quickly to filter out candidates showing bias related to Rocky’s celebrity status, social media exposure, or views on gun violence.
Presiding Judge Karen Whitmore addressed the jury pool directly:
“You may recognize the name. You may recognize the headlines. But your responsibility is not to judge based on fame—it’s to judge based on facts.”
Attorneys for both sides used their first peremptory challenges to exclude several individuals who admitted to following the case online or expressing strong opinions about either party.
The process is expected to take several days, with opening statements anticipated by the end of the week.
