In this story

Philthy Rich comes from the Seminary neighborhood of East Oakland, and the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Make a Living” does not soften that. It describes a legend grown through street raps and a rap sheet, and a career that went from local acclaim to collaborations with Jim Jones, Paul Wall, E-40 and Freeway.

A Bay Area roll call

“Make a Living,” featuring IAMSU!, was the lead single from Real N***as Back in $tyle, an album the campaign says brought in some of the best talent from the Bay Area and beyond: IAMSU!, Freeway, Paul Wall, Young Dolph and Sacramento rapper Mozzy.

Built for clubs and radio

The campaign pitched the single as club and radio ready, and as the track that put Philthy Rich’s distinct style at the front of the project.

Why it was in the inbox

Regional rap travels when it sounds exactly like where it comes from. “Make a Living” is East Oakland with a radio hook.
