Grimes Introduces ‘PSYOPERA’ With ‘Accelerando’ and a Vision of Technological Anxiety
Her next album rollout pairs a new single with cinematic imagery, production from VADAKIN, and a return to her own label.
The next album begins to take shape
Grimes has introduced her next album, PSYOPERA, with the single “ACCELERANDO.” The rollout brings a new recording and an accompanying video, while a full album release date remains unannounced in the reporting reviewed for this article.
The Needle Drop’s October 9 report identifies the project as her first full album since 2020’s Miss Anthropocene. It also reports a return to releasing through her own label, Nazgul, after her period with Columbia Records.
Sound and imagery share the same concerns
“ACCELERANDO” reunites Grimes with VADAKIN, who worked with her on the 2025 single “Artificial Angels,” according to The Needle Drop. The collaboration supplies a production connection between the new rollout and her more recent standalone work.
The video was directed by Cho Giseok, with Grimes serving as creative director. BroadwayWorld’s October 11 coverage describes battlefield imagery and a thematic focus on war, technology, and the feeling of rapid acceleration. Those are reported creative themes; the imagery alone does not establish how the recording or video was technically produced.
That separation is especially useful in a rollout discussing artificial intelligence. A work can address AI as a subject without every part of the work being AI-generated. The available reporting supports the thematic connection and the named production credits, rather than a complete account of the tools used.
The release calendar remains open
Rolling Stone’s announcement coverage likewise notes that a release date and complete track list had not been revealed. The concrete development is the beginning of the album campaign, not a confirmed countdown to its release.
For EV, the next useful updates will be the album’s timing, final track list, and credits. “ACCELERANDO” supplies the first clear reference point for this phase of the project while those details remain open.
