Found in the Inbox: Yalee Keeps It Casual on “Friends With Benefits
In this story
Yalee moves between R&B and hip-hop as a singer, songwriter and performer. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Yalee knew the town was not big enough for the dream, the Rive Video Promotion campaign for “Friends With Benefits” says, and left for New York City on the 21st birthday.
Sleeping in the car
The upcoming EP 10 Hours Away tells that story: driving around New York to network and sleeping in the car to make it happen.
From a Rihanna cover to Fetty Wap
The career started in 2013 with the mixtape Remember My Name, which included a cover of Rihanna’s “Stay.” “Pretty Girl Dance” followed as a single in 2014, and in 2015 “Pretty Girl Dance, Pt. 2” featuring Fetty Wap became one of Yalee’s biggest songs, with more than 1.5 million YouTube views.
Why it was in the inbox
“Friends With Benefits” is a smooth R&B record from an artist who knows exactly how far ten hours away really is.
