Local music in Downtown Phoenix is thriving these days and it’s due in large part to the unique venues offered to fans. An influx of new concert halls and bars in the past year has given them even more options, while the mainstays seem to be reinventing themselves or continuing to grow. Here is an artist that is starting to make waves… Eli Purks

“Good as I’ll ever be”

The desert encompassing Arizona makes for scorching hot days, a cool nights and all the scenery a band can need for inspiration. The vast amount of bands coming from the state are migrating towards Phoenix and the suburban sprawl it produced in the Valley of the Sun. Sunny-psychedelia, electronic pop, Motown-inspired rhythms and gypsy folk dances through the cacti and offers a wide variety of styles for all pallets searching for something to quench their thirsts. With artists like Elijah ringing bells with his hit single “I’m As Good As I’ll Ever Be” is shedding light on the Phoenix Indie scene.

At times, the music and the song feels like a huge summer hit, a pop song, but at it’s core it is not pop at all – there’s a feeling of soul, alternative melody making, a smoothness that only true artists can convey.

“Good As I’ll Ever Be” in terms of tone, and the relaxed nature of the performance – there are some moments of real passion, but it’s not screamed at you, it’s presented through the music.  There’s a strange sort of vintage vibe to it, which takes it from being a nostalgic summer track, to a reborn piece of art and entertainment, with meaning, and depth. It’s the kind of artist I’m sure many, many people would show up to for a live show, again that festival feeling; definitely a set to draw attention and draw a crowd.
