Found in the Inbox: Weapons of Anew Take Their “Killshot”
In this story
Weapons of Anew, a New York band with members of HavocHate and Spread Eagle, made its debut with “Killshot” on OK!Good Records. The Rive Video Promotion campaign says it was one of the first songs the band wrote, and the moment they found their sound.
Not another HavocHate record
“As we started writing for this new band idea (with Chris Manfre and Stefan ‘Reno’ Cutrupi), I didn’t want to write another HavocHate record,” guitarist Freddy Ordine said. “I felt I had more to say and it didn’t have to be all about heavy. It could have awesome melodies and groove and still smack you in the face, but in a different way.”
Ray West changes the chorus
Spread Eagle vocalist Ray West reshaped the song. “The chorus wasn’t written as you hear it now until Ray came in,” Ordine said. “I heard Ray sing the verses in this sleek kind of modal way the first time we ever played together and – ZAP!!! – I was instantly connected!” West wrote about love and hate: “The story of unrequited love, and the killing of its pain.” The campaign says the band reaches past hard rock and metal into progressive and even R&B.
Why it was in the inbox
