Sound and Music In Motion 2027: 18 Months of Funded Development for UK Music Creators

What it is: In Motion is Sound and Music’s 18-month artist development programme for original music creators, running from 1 April 2027 to 31 October 2028. It is supported by Arts Council England, PRS Foundation and Creative Scotland.

Who it’s for: UK-based music creators in any genre or discipline and at any career stage. Applicants must be over 18, must not be students (full- or part-time, including PhDs) or plan to start studying before November 2028, must have lived in the UK for the last two years and plan to remain UK-resident until November 2028, and need two recordings of their original compositions. Anyone who received a Sound and Music award, grant or commission, or took part in one of its programmes, in the last six months is not eligible.

How it works: Apply through Sound and Music’s official call by Monday 2 November 2026 at 23:59 GMT. Phase one asks for a short biography, responses to the application questions (in writing, audio or video) and links to two examples of your work. Up to 40 applicants are longlisted for a second phase, and 18 are invited to interview.

Worth knowing: Up to 10 creators are selected. Each receives a £1,800 personal bursary, a production grant of up to £4,000, one-to-one support from a Creative Programme Leader, coaching sessions, a mentoring budget, and cohort workshops and networking days. The production grant cannot be used to pay yourself a commission. Free online Meet the Team sessions are scheduled for 19 and 20 October; read the Application Guidance before applying.
