Sage tha Goddess – Purge “Everything about this track just seems to scream style, passion, and character”
Everything about this track just seems to scream style, passion, and character, perhaps in equal parts. The song and its accompanying music video make for a compelling experience that is close to impossible to turn away from. The song alone however works just as well, and the more you listen, the bigger the effect.
Initially there’s an element of shock to what is presented, this r&b style vocal comes through with a string of ideas that contrast and collide with each other in a way that is impossible to predict. It’s unexpected, but so well performed, and so intriguing to listen to. Subject matter aside, what you get is a powerful pop-fusion song that appears to have achieved a rare balance between the dark or melancholy and the somewhat lighter, inspiring or empowered elements of expression. The sound has a touch of Rihanna at times, the melody and this unusual balance, the passion. However, for the most part the whole thing is unquestionably unique – everything from the leading artist, her performance style, her lyricism, her vocal power. It’s all designed to grab your attention, and that’s exactly what it does.

It’s a great song in itself, the verses lead brilliantly into the hook, and the hook has the freshness and boldness of any great memorable musical moment. You take that key melody away with you after listening, and those words echo on in your mind. Stylistically there’s something very new and exciting about this particular creative venture, hopefully there’s plenty more to come. The ideas are ever interesting and the way in which Sage The Goddess has presented them is captivating and completely free of the confines of genre or what may be expected in the music industry. For all of these reasons and more, it’s a strong release.
